Shapes and Forms
It’s Not Just the Vase
Vase shape matters, yes, but it does not determine the end result. The hollow center of a vase opens endless decor possibilities. Filling this hollow space is just as important in the overall presentation as the shape, color, and texture of the vase. Study the shape of the vase and ask yourself how this shape looks in a place where natural light rises and sets. Color also matters. Do you enjoy bright colors or natural tones? Do the natural tones in color series live well together? Do you prefer monochromatic presentations in your living space? Do you want to fill the vase with floral statements, or does the vase stand solid as a solitary statement?
Not Just a Flora Parking Lot
After selecting a bouquet of flowers, the first course of action is generally finding a vase and a highly visible spot to place the ensemble. There are other factors at play when working with florals and vases. When selecting a vase for a bouquet of flowers, ask yourself what you want to reveal. Do you mind having exposed stems and leaves? If not, a glass vase may be a solution. Do you want shadow figures on your walls as the sun changes position? If so, a simple location near a window for this dramatic finish may work. Do you want to take in the aromas of the various flowers in the bouquet? If so, a vase affixed to the wall or on a flat surface near your favorite chair may work best for taking in the glorious scents of your arrangement. Flowers in a vase do not have to end with placement, water, and leaving them on the kitchen counter.

Elevation with Monochromatic Color
Even the most discriminating eye finds pleasure in a well-placed vase. Nothing makes a taste-making eye look twice like a monochromatic vase statement. In a series of multi-shaped and multi-medium vases, one-color statements draw visitors and dwellers alike into a creative exploration. Larger spaces with minimal pieces of furniture benefit visually from a single, simply shaped vase, as it becomes a focus piece season after season with exotic, large single stems. Monochromatic vase statements are powerful but work best in odd numbers like 1, 3, 5, 7, and so on. Another wildly popular trend in monochromatic vase culture is monochromatic color-on-color print. Here, the slightly raised print and base are the same color, always making the eye look again and again for new still movements.

Medium
Ready Made
Most home stores carry a wide variety of vases suited to most tastes. Here, consumers find various ways to reflect their personal decor tastes while investing in home goods that deliver functional artistic measures. Specialty home stores offer vases in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and mediums depending on desired placement. Vases are not just for indoor placement and floral destinations; they also elevate outdoor spaces. Landscaping takes a unique turn when accompanied by a large sculptural open vase or as part of a fountain in a water statement.
Made to Order
Does your vase convey the message you wish to deliver? If not, there are simple solutions to transform this vessel into a unique statement. If your vase has simple lines with a smooth finish, adding additional texture will elevate the visual presentation. Decide on a finish (matte or satin) and add sanded paint to the exterior. If your vase is a simple clear glass, elevate the presentation with a slightly opaque finish by lightly spraying the exterior with a matte spray designed for glass. Glass vases with an uneventful shape look like artisan pieces finished in matte texture. Concrete vases can be made with a simple silicone mold, concrete, and a little patience.

Why Vases?
Vases are the undiscovered art pieces that start conversations with others or ourselves. Not everyone is creatively expressive, but vases give even the most introverted person the opportunity to explore in a safe place. The functionality of vases reaches far beyond indoor floral housing by incorporating new color, texture, and shapes into our living spaces. Medium allows home space developers to bring fine mediums into personal spaces while exploring new ways of self-expression.
