Send Your Message via Gingerbread

What are Gingerbread Hearts?

Before the days of toting around designer coffee in three different sizes, in festivals all over Austria and Germany people carried hot mulled wine while nibbling on brightly decorated Gingerbread hearts large enough to cover part of their chest. Not all the hearts are ginormous, they come in various sizes ranging from small to incredibly large. What makes them special is that festival goers flock to vendor stands to connect with one of these sweet accessories. What makes them highly coveted are the various messages decorated across the smooth, fragrant spice cake. These hearts are one of the silent elements that keep the mass festivals going. If you’ve never experienced or seen one of these sweet treats, a first time experience is priceless.

How it Tastes

Think traditional gingerbread meets German Lebkuchen. If you have never experienced German Lebkuchen, it’s magical. This is where a balanced blend of spices melds with basic cake ingredients for a full sensational taste experience. Add perfectly piped white and colorful royal icing for an elevated sweetness, and this encounter takes on a new flavor profile with added texture.

Hearts for a Modern Age

Nothing outshines the traditional messages on one of these giant festive cookies, but a new age is here. We at BON LIFE envision a world where these center-placed messages start with hash tags. To date, we have not seen hash tags on hearts. This does not mean they do not exist, but so far, they have not crossed our desk. Has anyone seen hash tag gingerbread hearts? If so, please let us know where in the comments. If not, we guess it’s time to get busy in the test kitchen! When you find it, enjoy this sweetness in life and never let go!
